Optimism in Your Business

Quotes: – Being Positive in Leadership – Optimism

Positive things happen to positive people.
Sarah Beeny

A third dimention of leadership is the need for being positive – optimism. The frames people use to look on the world affect outcomes and therefore make a big difference to your life and business decisions. There are also many studies that say that optimists are more realistic than pessimists. If you are optimistic you are more confident in your ability to manage challenges and to motivate your team and yourself into the right actions: gathering the facts, planning and actioning then moving on. Staying energised where pessimists deplete their energy before they then start or are paralysed by the risks and negatives.
You can learn to be a positive thinker and optimistic. It took me quite a while, but I developed some strategies.

The key is to become self aware, when things go wrong :-

·limit your thoughts,
·keep to the specific impact
·keep your thoughts temporary don’t dwell but discussion and
·review for reasons for the poor performance or outcome and
·quickly move on to ways to do better,
·plan and
·act on your plan.
·And finally do an energy gaining activity (as per our last newsletter).

“The first duty of a leader is optimism. How does your subordinate feel after meeting with you? Does he feel uplifted? If not, you are not a leader.” Filed Marshall Montgomery.

Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.
Martin Luther
